Sweden, Norway and Denmark will allocate almost $500 million for weapons for Ukraine as part of NATO initiative
Sweden, Denmark and Norway will allocate $486 million (5 billion Norwegian kroner) for the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine within the framework of the NATO initiative. About this reported on the website of the Norwegian government.
According to the published information, the initiative will allow for prompt delivery of weapons from the USA to Ukraine, and also provides for the transfer of equipment to strengthen Ukrainian air defense, in particular, additional missiles for the Patriot systems. Sweden will contribute $275 million to the overall package – it is about the supply of anti-tank ammunition, Patriot missiles and other equipment for air defense.
“This is an important initiative of NATO and the United States. It helps Ukrainians quickly receive vital military equipment for self-defense and strengthens cooperation between the United States and European countries.”, — said the Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Har Støre.
In turn, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Denis Shmyhal confirmed allocation of aid to Ukraine:
“Sweden, together with Norway and Denmark, allocate 486 million dollars to the initiative. This instrument, implemented by the United States, Ukraine and NATO countries, allows the member countries of the Alliance to finance the supply of American weapons and technologies to Ukraine through voluntary contributions.”
Denis Shmyhal, during a telephone conversation with the Swedish Minister of Defense Paul Jonson, thanked for joining the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List initiative. He also held talks with the Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, Ruben Brekelmans.
“They discussed the prospects for the development of defense-industrial cooperation. They are interested in the creation of joint production facilities that will strengthen the defense potential of both countries and ensure the supply of weapons for the Defense Forces of Ukraine.” Shmyhal added.
