Teachers should not expect salary increases in the near future: Lisovyi

The Minister of Education noted that because of the war, 70% of the entire budget is directed to the needs of the Armed Forces.

Ukrainian teachers should not expect a salary increase in the near future due to the difficult financial situation in the state budget. This was stated by the Minister of Education and Science, Oksen Lisovyi, during a briefing in Mykolaiv Oblast. informs Ukrinform.

“This is a very painful problem. We all understand that it is difficult for us to attract young people to teach in schools, after-school institutions and vocational schools. We have developed a concept of raising wages, which involves increasing wages to three minimum wages. A decent wage is important to stimulate teachers to professional growth and self-development. However, the situation in the budget is very difficult.”, – explained Lisovyi.

The minister noted that more than 70% of the state budget is currently spent on defense. However, after the end of the war, there will be an opportunity to implement salary increases for teachers in the first place.

“We need to hold on. The position of the president of Ukraine, which we all support, is that education is the number 1 priority after defense. We will protect the country, defeat the enemy, and then education will become the main priority.” – noted the head of the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Previously, it was planned that in 2024, thanks to the increase in the educational subsidy, the salaries of teaching staff will increase: by 10.4% from January 1 and by another 12.6% from April 1 (according to the tariff grid). However, due to financial difficulties, these plans may be postponed.
