The Armed Forces of Ukraine have at their disposal a kamikaze drone HF-1 with artificial intelligence

The Ukrainian military effectively uses HF-1 kamikaze drones with artificial intelligence, developed by the German company Helsing, at the front. About this informs BILD. Military

An officer of the ZSU with the call sign “Romero” said that this drone allows you to strike enemy logistics far behind the front line. According to him, the main targets for the HF-1 are anti-aircraft guns, armored vehicles, electronic warfare systems and fortified enemy positions.

The drone is equipped with a guidance system with AI elements, which ensures resistance to enemy EW devices. In the event that the operator encounters obstacles on the screen, the device is able to independently determine and hit the target. Germany has already ordered four thousand such drones for Ukraine, more than a thousand of them have already been delivered and they have been used by Ukrainian units since last winter.

However, the military points to certain shortcomings of the HF-1. Artificial intelligence begins to act only about a kilometer from the target, and until this stage the control is carried out by the operator. Algorithms of approach to the target also need to be improved in order to increase the accuracy of the damage.

According to one of the servicemen, all Helsing drones on the front need constant adaptation, because only in combat conditions are their true weaknesses revealed, especially in the operation of communication systems.

The manufacturer, in cooperation with the Ukrainian military, continues to improve drones. In particular, it was possible to adapt the work of AI in such a way that the drone remained in the air even under the influence of enemy electronic warfare systems. Ukrainian defenders emphasized that they need to increase the supply of such UAVs for the effective conduct of hostilities.
