The Cabinet of Ministers approved an ambitious plan: water will appear in some regions of Ukraine by 2030

Construction of water supply systems, repair of hydrotechnical structures and cleaning of rivers are foreseen.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a large-scale plan to provide water to regions affected by the war. The implementation of this plan is planned until 2030 and is particularly important, since previous similar initiatives in Ukraine were only partially implemented. About this reported in the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.

The program will be financed at the expense of international partners (57%), the state budget (37%) and local budgets (6%). The plan covers 9 regions, including Donetsk, Kherson and Odesa regions.

“This document is revolutionary, because providing water to the frontline regions is a big problem. The last similar program in Ukraine, which ran from 2012 to 2021, was completed by only 27%. Today, we cannot afford to move slowly towards improving the state of water resources. The new program will be financed by international aid for 57%, the state budget for 37% and local budgets for 6%.”, said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strilets.

As part of the program, construction of water supply systems, repair of hydrotechnical structures and cleaning of rivers is envisaged. It is also planned to use underground water to create reserve sources.

Ruslan Strilets added that the implementation of the program will not only solve the problem of water supply, but also create new jobs in the affected regions. He emphasized that this is an important step for Ukraine and a demonstration of an integrated approach to water resources management.

The program also provides for the creation of modern infrastructure for monitoring water quality and the introduction of the latest technologies for its purification. This will ensure a stable water supply in all regions of the country, including those most affected by the war.

It is expected that the program will contribute to the restoration of river and reservoir ecosystems, the improvement of the state of the environment and the strengthening of national security of Ukraine by ensuring access to quality drinking water for all citizens.
