The Cabinet of Ministers approved the list of criteria for states with which a simplified procedure for acquiring Ukrainian citizenship will be introduced
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the resolution developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which defines the criteria for foreign countries with which the simplified procedure will be introduced acquisition of Ukrainian citizenship.
“The key target audience of these innovations is our communities around the world. The introduction of multiple citizenship will allow those ethnic Ukrainians who are citizens of foreign countries to acquire Ukrainian citizenship while preserving their foreign citizenship. Ukrainians abroad of all generations know how long-awaited this step is. Many of them have been waiting for him for years”, explained Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga.
He added that priority will be given to states that are among Ukraine’s closest and most reliable allies. Among the criteria will be taken into account membership in the Group of Seven and the European Union, the introduction of sanctions against Russia due to its aggression against Ukraine, support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, the position during voting in international organizations, the presence of a strategic or other type of partnership, the level and prospects of the development of bilateral relations, financial assistance to Ukraine, as well as other factors that may be of significant importance for the protection of national interests in foreign and domestic policy.
The list of specific states whose citizens will be able to use the right to multiple citizenship is currently not defined. The resolution establishes the order of its formation.
We would like to remind you that on June 18, 2025, the Verkhovna Rada in the second reading and as a whole supported draft law No. 11469, which officially introduces the institution of multiple citizenship in Ukraine. On July 15, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed this law.
