The government transferred the management of the State Film Agency to the Ministry of Culture

The Cabinet of Ministers decided to transfer the management of the State Agency for Cinema to the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications (MCSC). Previously, the activities of Derzhkino were directly coordinated by the government. About this informs ICSK press office.

In addition to coordinating the agency’s work, the ministry was empowered to initiate changes to film legislation for further consideration by the government.

“Coordination of State Cinema activities by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications will allow to more effectively support the development of the industry and promote the involvement of cinema as an element of cultural diplomacy. Cinematography has enormous potential as an important tool for strengthening international support for Ukraine.” – commented the Minister of Culture Mykola Tochytskyi on the government’s decision.

We will remind that since the appointment of Maryna Kuderchuk as the head of State Cinema in January 2020, the film community has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with the work of the agency. Kuderchuk was criticized for a lack of professional competence, and the department was criticized for lack of transparency in interaction with cinematographers and difficulties in communication with the mass media.

One of the most high-profile scandals was the State Cinema’s attempt to illegally extend the powers of the second member of the Council for State Support of Cinematography, which was headed by producer and former business partner of Andriy Yermak, Artem Kolyubaev.
