In Cherkasy region, the deputy chief of staff was suspected of humiliating and beating subordinates

The State Bureau of Investigation reported suspicions to the deputy chief of staff of one of the military units in the Cherkasy region, who during morning formation ordered five soldiers to kneel and beat one of his subordinates.

According to According to the investigation, the officer struck the victim about ten times with his hands and feet on the head and face. The serviceman was hospitalized with bodily injuries. The next day, law enforcement officers detained the officer and opened criminal proceedings under Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – abuse of power or official authority by a military person under martial law. The sanction of the article provides for up to 12 years of imprisonment.

The court chose a preventive measure for the suspect – detention with the possibility of posting bail. According to sources, the officer was released on bail.

In addition, investigators are checking his possible involvement in the beating of two more servicemen. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
