The case of Tabachnyk’s former adviser was transferred to court: SBI

The SBI employees completed the pre-trial investigation and submitted to the court an indictment against the former adviser to the former Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Dmytro Tabachnyk, who is currently actively engaged in anti-Ukrainian propaganda on Russian platforms. The investigation established that the accused, while in Ukraine, received funding from the Russian authorities for anti-Ukrainian activities. He spread Russian propaganda narratives through various media platforms and his own Internet resources, positioning himself as an “expert.” His activities were aimed at changing Ukraine’s foreign policy course.

The accused acted in coordination with representatives of the Russian authorities, in particular, with the deputy head of one of the departments of the administration of the President of the Russian Federation. Until February 2014, he regularly visited Moscow for meetings in the Kremlin, and also constantly maintained telephone contact with Russian officials.

At the beginning of February 2014, after learning about the threat of exposure, the accused fled to Russia. There, he continues to support the aggressive actions of the Russian Federation, coordinating his activities with the highest officials of the aggressor state. For the maximum audience, he published his materials on popular Russian websites and gave interviews on propaganda TV channels, which collected hundreds of thousands of views.

He is charged with treason, public calls for aggressive war, as well as the production and distribution of materials justifying and denying the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine (parts 1, 2 of article 111, part 3 of article 436-2, article 436 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). If found guilty, he faces up to life imprisonment.

We will remind that Dmytro Tabachnyk held the position of Minister of Education and Science in Mykola Azarov’s government from 2010 to 2014. Previously, he was also the head of the Presidential Administration (1994–1996) and twice the deputy prime minister in Yanukovych’s governments (2002–2003, 2006–2007).
