The CEC estimated the cost of the upcoming elections in Ukraine
Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission Serhiy Dubovik reported that the next elections in Ukraine, taking into account all related costs, could cost approximately 20 billion hryvnias. For comparison, the 2019 elections cost about 2 billion hryvnias, but inflation and new conditions have significantly increased costs.
According to Dubovik, local and parliamentary elections can cost from 4 to 5 billion hryvnias, while presidential elections are expected to be more expensive: 4–5 billion for the first round and 6.5–7 billion for the second round.
Approximately 70% of all costs go to the remuneration of members of district, precinct and territorial election commissions. This amount does not include the costs of local governments for the preparation of polling stations and material support. It is also necessary to take into account the possible increase in the number of polling stations abroad.
Previously, the CEC warned that in the current conditions, holding a vote in Ukraine is difficult and can create serious risks for the legitimacy of the government. Currently, only 75% of polling stations are functioning, and almost a million Ukrainian servicemen are at the front without the opportunity to vote. The head of the CEC noted that even under the most favorable conditions, Ukraine will need at least six months to prepare for the elections.
