The chairman of the US House of Representatives committee was skeptical about the chances of approving security assistance to Ukraine
The chairman of the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, Republican Brian Mast stated that Congress is unlikely to approve a new package of financial assistance to Ukraine, while supporting the strengthening of sanctions against Russia.
“I do not believe that you will see a new American package of security assistance to Ukraine – for $ 6 billion, $ 60 billion or any other amount,” the congressman noted.
In his opinion, European countries should take greater responsibility for supporting Ukraine, since the war is taking place in their backyard.
At the same time, Mast noted that Washington will continue to provide Ukraine with intelligence support and will allow the sale and transfer of weapons even without a new large-scale package. His statements reflect a growing skepticism about support for Ukraine among Republicans close to US President Donald Trump.
Earlier, a petition in the House of Representatives aimed at holding a vote on military aid to Ukraine and new sanctions against Russia gathered the necessary 218 signatures. The vote could take place in June.
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed that Ukraine will be provided with $400 million in aid to protect against Russian aggression.
