The colonel of the medical service will be tried for illegally paying his wife almost 1 million hryvnias of “combat”
The employees of the SBI completed the pre-trial investigation in the case of the colonel of the medical service, who registered his wife as a nurse and illegally paid her almost a million hryvnias in the form of “combat” payments. The indictment has already been sent to the court, informs DBR press office.
The investigation established that the colonel of the medical service of one of the units of the Armed Forces agreed with the commander of the medical company about the fictitious employment of his wife. In fact, the woman was never a military officer and was at home with her child all this time.
The colonel personally supervised the process of registration and payments to his wife. She transferred all the necessary documents via messenger and did not even come for a personal signature. Since July 2023, she was registered as a nurse in the department of rehabilitation and restorative treatment.
However, in reality, the woman never appeared in the military unit, but received monthly allowances and extra payments for allegedly participating in hostilities. In eight months, she illegally received almost 1 million hryvnias.
The colonel, his wife and the commander of the medical company are accused of seizing other people’s property by abusing their official position under martial law, committed by a particularly large organized group (Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of these articles provides up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
During the search of the residence of the colonel of the medical service, law enforcement officers seized a machine gun and almost 500 rounds of ammunition. It turned out that the weapon belonged to a fallen serviceman and was officially considered lost in battle. Based on this fact, the colonel is also accused of theft of weapons by a serviceman under martial law and illegal storage of ammunition (Part 4 of Article 410, Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Procedural management in the case is carried out by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Eastern region.
