The court arrested the suspects in the case of supplying the Armed Forces of Ukraine with 120 thousand defective shells

The Shevchenkiv District Court of Kyiv decided to take into custody all four involved in the case of supplying more than 120,000 defective mortar shells to the Armed Forces, without the possibility of making bail. About this informs Anti-Corruption Center.
“The investigative judge of the Shevchenkivskiy District Court of Kyiv, Volodymyr Bugil, granted the request of the SBU investigator and imposed preventive measures in the form of detention without alternative bail on Mykhailo Shkurenko, one of the military representatives of the Ministry of Defense, and the head of the control group, Yuriy Yaresk.” – says the message.
Leonid Shiman, the general director of the defense plant in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, was ordered to be held in custody until June 27 without the right to bail. The meeting on this issue took place in a closed format.
On May 1, during an open session, the court considered the issue of selecting a preventive measure for the first deputy of Shyman, Oleksiy Kirichenko. His defense petitioned for the judge’s disqualification due to a violation of the case allocation procedure, considering it a sign of bias.
“I believe that all these circumstances are an obvious manifestation of bias and incriminating bias, along with a gross violation of the determination of the composition of the court, regarding the investigation of the petition, which will obviously lead to the cancellation of any court decision. Therefore, I ask to grant the application for recusal.” – said the lawyer.
The prosecutors objected, and the court rejected this request, deciding to hold the hearing in closed session. As a result, Kirichenko was also given a preventive measure — detention until June 27 without the right to bail.
The investigation established that in 2024, the management of a defense enterprise in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast concluded a contract with the State Defense Procurement Agency for the amount of over 11 billion hryvnias for the production of 120-mm mortar ammunition for the needs of the Armed Forces.
The results of the examination showed that an unsuitable mixture of powders was used in the explosive charges, which led to unstable operation. In addition, the igniter capsules were found to have defects that caused misfires. Despite the identified shortcomings, production was not stopped, seeking to preserve profits from the state contract.
“Officials of the military mission involved in the scheme did not carry out proper quality control and entered false data into the reporting.” — noted in the Anti-Corruption Center.
As a result of these actions, more than 120,000 defective mines were handed over to Ukrainian troops, which later had to be recalled from the front, which caused significant damage to the combat effectiveness of the Defense Forces.
