The court remanded in custody the suspect in the murder of Parubiy
A court in Lviv extended the preventive measure for Mykhailo Stcelnikov, who is suspected of the murder of politician Andriy Parubiy. He will remain in custody without bail for another 60 days – until May 30.
During the hearing, the suspect stated: “Whatever happens, whatever happens – I ask you for no mercy.”
During the preliminary hearing, which took place a week ago, he also said that $200 was allegedly stolen from him during the seizure of his property. In addition, he said that he learned about the funeral of his son, a military officer in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, from “the guys in prison.”
Former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy was shot dead in Lviv on August 30, 2025. The attacker fired approximately eight shots at the politician from a short-barreled firearm, as a result of which he died on the spot.
The Head of the National Police, Ivan Vyhivskyi, stated that the suspect Mykhailo Stselnikov had been preparing this crime for a long time, following the victim. After the attack, he tried to hide in the Khmelnytskyi region. According to Vyhovsky, the murder was not accidental and has a Russian trace.
The suspect himself called the act “revenge on the Ukrainian authorities” and denied information about blackmail by Russian special services. He also said that he wants a quick verdict so that he can be exchanged for prisoners of war and he can find his son’s body. He is charged with five articles at once, which carry a life sentence with confiscation of property.
