The court set a bail of 10 million hryvnias for the former head of the SBU in Mykolaiv region

The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv has imposed a preventive measure on the former head of the SBU in the Mykolaiv region, who is suspected of illegally enriching himself by more than 22 million hryvnias. He was set a bail of 10 million hryvnias. This was reported by the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption. The NACP does not name the person involved, however, according to media reports, it is the former head of the SBU department in Mykolaiv region, commander of the 423rd separate battalion of unmanned systems, Vitaliy Hersak. The State Bureau of Investigation announced the suspicion of the former official, in particular based on materials from lifestyle monitoring conducted by the NACP.

According to monitoring and pre-trial investigation data, in the summer of 2021, the official’s mother-in-law bought two apartments in an elite residential complex in Kyiv with a total value of over 12 million hryvnias, three parking spaces for almost 1.9 million hryvnias, and a non-residential building for over 8.4 million hryvnias.

“Later, this property was donated to her daughter, the official’s wife, who granted her husband the right to use it,” the report says.

At the same time, an analysis of the income of the declarant, his wife, and mother-in-law showed that they did not have sufficient legal sources for acquiring such assets. The NACP noted that the person involved in the case has repeatedly been involved in journalistic investigations. After information about his family’s property appeared in the media, he resigned from law enforcement agencies.

The procedural management of the criminal proceedings is carried out by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Previously, SBI employees reported suspicions against Vitaliy Hersak, who in 2020–2021 acquired assets worth more than 22 million hryvnias, which significantly exceed his legal income.

In 2020, “Our Money with Denis Bigus” reported that the family of the head of the SBU of the Mykolaiv region, Vitaliy Hersak, has expensive real estate, large land plots, and luxury cars that do not correspond to the family’s official income. The NACP sent a conclusion regarding Hersak to the NABU. At that time, the agency found that he had inaccurate information worth 800 thousand hryvnias. The Mykolaiv court did not establish the intent of Hersak to enter false data into the declaration and closed the administrative proceedings.

Activists and veterans present at the court hearing drew attention to a number of contradictions in this case.
“Why have the events of six years ago only now interested investigators? Is this case so fundamental that it is necessary to behead one of the key battalions in the critically important Zaporizhia direction? It seems that the front is being deliberately destroyed by the hands of FSB agents in the Ukrainian government,” said the war invalid, defense veteran, and legendary intelligence officer with the call sign “Jew.” During the court hearing, it became known that the commander of the 423rd OB BPS, Lieutenant Colonel Hersak, was approached by the commander of the OK “South” Major General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine M. Sydorenko and the commander of the 20th Army Corps, Colonel Zaits. has-data-writing-block:pt-(–shadow-height) [&:has([data-writing-block])>*]:pointer-events-auto [content-visibility:auto] supports-[content-visibility:auto]:[contain-intrinsic-size:auto_100lvh] R6Vx5W_threadScrollVars scroll-mb-[calc(var(–scroll-root-safe-area-inset-bottom,0px)+var(–thread-response-height)] scroll-mt-[calc(var(–header-height)+min(200px,max(70px,20svh)))]” dir=”auto” data-turn-id=”request-WEB:36420787-5222-4657-a06b-d41d0dc87527-0″ data-testid=”conversation-turn-2″ data-scroll-anchor=”false” data-turn=”assistant”>
