The details of the meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Robert Fitso in Uzhhorod became known
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi met with Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico in Uzhhorod. Zelensky described the meeting as “meaningful”. He emphasized that the “principle” issues important to both states, reports DW.
“Informed about our conversation yesterday with US President Donald Trump, about work with the leaders of the “coalition of the willing” for bringing peace and guaranteeing the security of Ukraine, about the security architecture for Europe. And Slovakia will not be left out, – said Zelensky.
He also reported that Robert Fizo told him about his contacts in China, where he had meetings with the leaders of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping and Russia’s Vladimir Putin.
Robert Fico responded by emphasizing that Slovakia acts based on its national interests, but at the same time respects Ukraine, strives to establish cooperation and supports all initiatives aimed at ending the war.
Answering journalists’ questions about whether Putin convinced during the meeting in China to apply an energy blockade against Ukraine, Fico said that this is not true. He clarified that he visited China to honor the memory of the victims of the Second World War, and during the meeting with Putin they discussed only issues of bilateral relations.
Zelensky, for his part, emphasized that Slovakia is ready to help Ukraine, supports its accession to the EU, and intends to join the “coalition of shelters”, in particular to finance the construction of shelters in Ukraine. As the President of Ukraine noted, the country will respond to Russian strikes on the energy infrastructure.
“We are ready to supply gas and oil to Slovakia – if it is not Russian gas and not Russian oil. Because we have a war. That’s the point. If there were no energy problems due to Russian strikes, we could cooperate with Slovakia in this area. We had a surplus at any time of the year before the Russian strikes on the energy system. If it had not been for the blows, we would have continued to work”, – emphasized Zelensky.
He also informed that the project of construction of a new Eurotrack from Uzhgorod to European capitals will be presented today. In addition, according to him, Ukraine is ready to develop joint energy initiatives with Slovakia, but only those that are not related to Russia.
