The ex-commander of the OTU “Kharkiv” Galushkin was extended the measure of restraint

Pechersk District Court of Kyiv continued a preventive measure for the former commander of the “Kharkiv” OTU Yuriy Galushkin in the form of detention for another 30 days – until April 22.

“We paid great attention to the collection of descriptive materials, in fact all the ministers of defense, all the commanders in chief, since 2014, wrote letters of support for the characterization of General Galushkin, that he is a person and an officer who deserves trust, and that the court should have no doubts that he will properly fulfill his procedural duties. Unfortunately, the investigating judge did not listen to this argument.” Galushkin’s lawyer Dmytro Krugovy said.

Galushkin is suspected of negligent military service and inadequate defense during the second Russian attack on Kharkiv Oblast in 2024. Lieutenant General Artur Horbenko and Colonel Ilya Lapin were detained together with him on January 20. According to the SBI, due to their negligence, the Russians were able to capture part of the Lipetsk village community in the Kharkiv region in May of last year.

On January 21, the court ordered a preventive measure for Galushkin in the form of 60 days of arrest with the possibility of making a bail of 5 million hryvnias, and the bail was made the very next day. However, after his release from the pre-trial detention center, he was detained again, as the law enforcement officers discovered new facts in the case of breaking through the border in the Kharkiv region.

The investigation claims that the commander ignored the intelligence and considered the Russian attack unlikely, which is why he gave insufficiently substantiated orders that did not correspond to the situation.

As a result, the enemy was able to advance 10 km deep into the defenses of the 125th separate ground defense battalion, which allowed him to shell Kharkiv with artillery. As a result of this, almost a hundred Ukrainian soldiers were wounded, killed or went missing in just the first day of the enemy’s offensive.
