The first round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia and the United States aimed at resolving the war with Russia has ended in the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The meetings are scheduled to continue on Thursday, February 5.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov reported that after the trilateral meeting, the negotiation process continued in the format of working in groups. The Ukrainian side was represented by him, as well as the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov and his first deputy Serhiy Kyslytsia, the head of the Servant of the People faction David Arakhamia, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andriy Hnatov, and the advisor to the Office of the President Oleksandr Bevz.

The American delegation was headed by Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, Josh Gruenbaum, as well as Daniel Driscoll and General Alex Hrinkevich. The Russian side was represented at a high military level, according to Umerov.

According to Umerov, the negotiations were “meaningful and productive, with an orientation towards specific steps and practical solutions”. He also added that the results of the meeting will be compiled into a report for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

These talks were an important stage in attempts to find ways to de-escalate the conflict and work out practical security mechanisms that can be implemented in the near future.
