The Foreign Ministries of Ukraine and Latvia have denied Russian statements about the preparation of attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Latvian territory
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has denied claims by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service that Latvia is preparing to provide the Ukrainian Defense Forces with its territory for air strikes on Russia. The Latvian authorities have also called these allegations false.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Heorhiy Tykhyi declared that Moscow’s accusations are part of it disinformation campaign aimed at destabilizing public opinion in Latvia and the Baltic states.
“There is no truth in the latest series of false accusations by Moscow about preparing attacks against Russia from the territory of Latvia. We officially refute them. Ukraine does not use the territory or airspace of Latvia in its operations against Russia and does not intend to do so,” stressed Georgy Tykhy.
Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže also rejected the statements of the Russian intelligence agency.
“Russia is lying again! This time it is the SVR or Foreign Intelligence Service that is conducting a disinformation campaign against Latvia. Fact: Latvia does not provide airspace for attacks on Russia. This has been explained to Russian representatives several times,” Baiba Braže noted.
On May 19, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service said that Latvia had allegedly agreed to launch Ukrainian drones from its territory at targets in Russia. Kyiv and Riga deny these claims.
