The government has agreed on a mechanism for payments for dead civilians who defended the country

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the draft law, which provides for a significant increase in one-time assistance for the families of civilians who died while defending the country. About this reported Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

“At the beginning of the full-scale war, many Ukrainians took up arms and defended the state in the status of civilians. A payment of 1.9 million UAH is provided for the families of such dead civilians. We propose to increase it to 15 million UAH, and we believe that this is right and fair . This will help support the families of those who died protecting our country and our future.” – he noted.

The document provides for payments to the families of dead civilians who participated in the country’s defense measures together with military formations from February 24 to March 25, 2022.

The draft law provides for:

  • clarification of the criteria for assigning the status of a family member of a fallen (deceased) defender of Ukraine;
  • payment of one-time assistance in the amount of UAH 15 million to the families of persons who died in the period from February 24 to March 25, 2022 during the implementation of defensive measures to protect Ukraine;
  • making additional payments for those who have already received partial compensation, taking into account previously paid funds.

In addition, the draft law clarifies the grounds for obtaining the status of a family member of a deceased defender of Ukraine. For those who previously received partial compensation, payment of the difference up to the full amount of UAH 15 million is expected.
