The head of the Odesa fund embezzled money for the military and went abroad

The head of the charity fund “Ajalyk” in Odesa region illegally took possession of almost 3.4 million hryvnias collected for the support of the Armed Forces. He faces up to seven years in prison with confiscation of property, but the man managed to leave the country. About this informs Police of Odesa region.

According to the investigation, the 45-year-old founder of the charity fund “Ajalyk” sent letters to entrepreneurs asking for financial assistance for the purchase of ammunition for the military. However, he used most of the funds received in the organization’s accounts for his own enrichment.

Over the course of nine months, the suspect received over five million hryvnias in donations, of which he embezzled 3,381,100 hryvnias. Law enforcement officers searched, in particular, the premises of the foundation, and found evidence of its involvement in criminal activities.

The man was declared a suspect for h. 3 Art. 201-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Illegal use of humanitarian aid and charitable donations for profit). He faces up to seven years in prison with confiscation of property. However, the suspect is currently wanted, as he managed to leave the territory of Ukraine.

We will remind that in the autumn of 2004, at that time, Serhii Kryvenko, a law enforcement officer, was caught stealing ferronickel ingots from the warehouse of the Illichiv Sea Trade Port. The court sentenced him to 5 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property and without the right to work in law enforcement agencies for 2.5 years. However, the Court of Appeal of the Odesa region released Kryvenka after a year and a half of imprisonment.
