The higher anti-corruption court extended the preventive measure against the ex-head of the Supreme Court, Knyazev
The term of the preventive measure has now been extended until September 17, 2024.
The former head of the Supreme Court of Ukraine, Vsevolod Knyazev, was extended the preventive measure, extending the period of validity of the procedural duties assigned to him. The relevant decision was made by the High Anti-Corruption Court, informs service to the court.
According to the court’s decision, Knyazev is obliged to:
- to appear at every request to the investigator (detective), the prosecutor and the court;
- not to leave the territory of Ukraine without the permission of the investigator (detective), prosecutor or court;
- notify the investigator (detective), prosecutor or court about a change of residence and place of work;
- refrain from communicating with the persons specified in the court order;
- hand over your passport for traveling abroad and other documents giving the right to leave Ukraine and enter Ukraine for safekeeping at the State Department of Internal Affairs in Kyiv.
The preventive measure was extended until September 17, 2024 inclusive. The next preliminary court hearing in this case is scheduled for July 30, 2024.
Knyazev’s case
In May 2023, the chairman of the Supreme Court, Vsevolod Knyazev, was exposed for accepting a bribe of 2.7 million dollars. The bribe was related to the case of businessman Kostyantyn Zhevago regarding the Poltava mining and beneficiation plant. As a result, Knyazev was stripped of his powers and removed from the administration of justice.
Recently, Knyazev was discovered at a checkpoint near the border with Romania, where he was in a car as a passenger, which caused additional attention to his case.
