The Kyiv Marathon of Invincibility returns to the streets of Kyiv for the first time since the beginning of the invasion
On October 13, the Kyiv Marathon of Invincibility will return to the streets of the capital for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale war. For the first time in a long time, the participants of the charity run will leave the borders of Trukhanovo Island. The event, like all Run Ukraine events, will have a charitable component — it is planned to raise more than 10 million hryvnias to support the army and various charitable initiatives.
The marathon will take place over two days — October 12 and 13. On Saturday, October 12, the races will be held on the territory of Trukhanovo Island, and the main route through the streets of Kyiv will be opened on Sunday. The start will begin on Trukhanovo Island, and then the route will pass through the Northern Bridge, Obolon, Natalka Park and the Azov Wave Bridge. Half-marathon participants will cover 21 km in one lap, and marathon runners – 42 km in two laps.
For the safety of the participants, traffic on the North Bridge will be partially restricted on October 13 — two lanes in one direction will remain free for traffic. There are no traffic restrictions on October 12.
When making a decision, the city authorities took into account security risks and the social importance of the event. Already at the stage of preparation, the marathon collected more than 6 million hryvnias, and during the event it is planned to collect more than 10 million.
Key features of the event:
- Social integration of the military: a separate race is planned for active military personnel and veterans.
- Psychological support: sports activities promote physical and mental health, and the number of people willing to participate this year has doubled compared to last year.
- Security: There will be more shelters for participants along the longer route, allowing them to disperse safely in the event of an airstrike.
- Charity: 50% of the profit from the various distances of the marathon will be donated to the UNITED24 platform, created by President Volodymyr Zelenskyi to raise funds to support Ukraine. The 1.6km run will be entirely for charity, with all funds raised going to the Superhumans Centre.
Kyiv Marathon of Invincibility, which has been held since 2010, annually gathers thousands of runners from Ukraine and abroad. This year’s marathon will take place on October 12-13, and registration is ongoing on the official website kyivmarathon.org.
