Point of view

The military is outraged by the fact that Russia was informed in advance about the planned long-range strikes with ATACMS missiles

The decision of US President Joe Biden to allow Ukraine to strike long-range ATACMS weapons on Russian territory caused a wide resonance in Ukraine and the world. The change in tactics and the expansion of Ukraine’s capabilities during the war had a significant impact on all sides of the conflict. In addition, it became known that France and Great Britain also provided support for such decisions. Such support for the Ukrainian defense gives strength and confidence, however, as the military themselves believe, there are certain tactical aspects in this decision that could be resolved more thoughtfully.

Military serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yevhen Ievlev expressed his opinion on this matter, emphasizing the need to approach such actions strategically and intelligently.

The military man is sure that Russia should have learned about the permission to strike on its territory only after the fact – after the first accurate and effective strikes on targets inside the Russian Federation. Ievlev noted that the public announcement creates additional difficulties for the effective performance of such operations. According to him, such issues should have been discussed at the level of the military departments of Ukraine and the countries that granted this permission, without loud statements in the mass media.

“I have already read that not only the USA, but also France and Great Britain have given permission to shoot their missiles deep into the territory of the Russian Federation. This is all wonderful, one can only applaud. But I will say frankly that I don’t understand why there is so much shouting about it in the media?”, — said Ievlev with indignation during the broadcast on the “Espresso” channel.

The military noted that such information should have remained at the level of interstate agreements, and the result should have been manifested through real actions on the battlefield.

Consequences of declaring permission: the opponent receives a handicap for preparation

Ievlev explained that now the Russians, understanding the threat from long-range Ukrainian weapons, will be able to take measures in advance. Instead of suffering sudden and devastating losses, the occupiers were given the opportunity to prepare for strikes, and therefore reduce their effectiveness.

“The equipment standing in the affected area will be hidden or protected by additional means of air defense. The enemy has several days to take appropriate measures.” – he explains.

Although important facilities such as oil depots or substations cannot be moved, Ievlev notes that the enemy may increase air defense around these strategic points, making the task more difficult for Ukrainian forces.

The military justifies its position through military tactics

Evgeny Ievlev made a comparison with boxing:

“Why tell the enemy that I will now hit, speaking the language of boxing, an uppercut, if he knows how to cover himself from such a blow?”.

He explains that in military operations, the element of surprise is of critical importance, because it allows to achieve the most effective results with minimal losses. In his opinion, such decisions must be carried out quietly and effectively, and permission for such actions should have been declared only after the first “cotton” results, as they call well-hitting on important enemy targets.

“The permit is great from a political point of view, but raises questions about the feasibility of a public statement”

Evgeny Ievlev recognizes the importance of the received permits from a political point of view, because they emphasize international support for Ukraine in its struggle. However, he and his colleagues believe that the news about this should have been limited in the public space, so that the enemy did not have time to take protective measures. Ievlev and his colleagues are disappointed that instead of the element of surprise, Ukraine has gained some difficulties, because the Russians now have the opportunity to adapt to new conditions and hide important equipment and resources.
