The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has agreed with the UAE on the protection of Ukrainians residing in the country

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga reported that the government of the United Arab Emirates confirmed its readiness to provide Ukrainians currently in this country with the necessary protection and attention in the conditions of military instability in the Middle East. According to Sybiha, this was the result of a telephone conversation with the UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

“I appealed to my Emirati colleague with a request to provide Ukrainian citizens in the UAE with the necessary protection and care in the current circumstances. I am grateful to His Highness for confirming that the rights of our citizens will be fully protected, as well as that they will receive proper treatment in “in all aspects,” Sybiga noted.

In addition, he expressed Ukraine’s solidarity with the UAE, which has recently suffered numerous attacks from Iran:

“We condemn these attacks, which are unjustified and illegal acts of aggression. They also demonstrate the unacceptable threat that the Iranian regime poses to the entire region and beyond.”

The parties also discussed joint efforts to support long-term peace and security in the Middle East. Currently, according to Sybiga, there are approximately 250,000 Ukrainians in the region. The consular services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintain constant contact with citizens, and embassies cooperate with local authorities and European partners.

“For now, fortunately, there is no information about injuries or deaths of Ukrainian citizens as a result of the worsening security situation. We are aware of problems with departures in countries where the sky is closed. In all situations, embassies are in contact with citizens and provide the necessary consultations,” the minister said.

Sybiga added that some Ukrainians have already been evacuated by land to safe places, in particular to Egypt, thanks to coordination with European partners. He also called on all Ukrainians who are in the countries of the region to follow security rules and carefully monitor messages from diplomatic institutions and local authorities.
