DBR employees together with SBU have completed a pre-trial investigation into a current People’s Deputy of Ukraine, who is accused of treason and fraudulent appropriation of funds of a private enterprise. After the defense side familiarizes itself with the materials, the case will be transferred to the court.
The name of the people’s deputy was not mentioned in the SBI, however, according to information sources of RBC-Ukraine, it is Yevgeny Shevchenko.
The investigation considered three episodes: two related to high treason before and after the start of the full-scale invasion, and the third – the seizure of UAH 14.5 million of the company by a people’s deputy. It has been established that he maintained contacts with representatives of the Belarusian embassy, since 2020 he has repeatedly visited Belarus, met with businessmen, politicians and the self-proclaimed president. During these meetings, he spread misinformation about the alleged absence of an attack threat from the territory of Belarus.
He also recorded programs on his own media resources, gave interviews to pro-Russian bloggers and experts, in which he promoted Russian narratives. These materials were later distributed on propaganda platforms of the Russian Federation, creating the impression that this is the official position of the Ukrainian authorities. The deputy did not stop such activities even after the beginning of the invasion: in public speeches, he promoted theses about the “collapse of Ukrainian statehood”, the loss of territories and the inability of the authorities to achieve peace, and also convinced that Ukraine was allegedly incapable of winning and should enter into negotiations with the Russian Federation under any conditions.
It is separately documented that the deputy used his contacts in Belarus to arrange the supply of mineral fertilizers. The Ukrainian company paid for the products, but the delivery was delayed. He assured that there were no necessary permits for transporting the cargo, although he knew that the documents were available.
In order to “solve the problem”, he forced entrepreneurs to enter into a contract for consulting services with a company controlled by him for UAH 14.5 million. He spent these funds on the purchase of three premium cars — a Porsche Macan, a BMW X5M (2021) and a Mercedes-Benz AMG (2022), which he issued to fake people. The total customs value of the cars exceeded 250,000 euros.
The People’s Deputy has been charged with treason committed under martial law and fraud committed by a group of individuals on a particularly large scale based on a prior conspiracy. The sanctions of the articles provide for punishment up to life imprisonment with confiscation of property. He is currently in the pre-trial detention center. Procedural management is carried out by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
