Ukraine plans to build a biomethane plant capable of producing 7 million m³ of gas per year
The Pan Kurchak Agro-Industrial Group has announced its intention to build a biomethane plant that will produce over 7 million cubic meters of fuel annually. The raw material for production will be waste from its own facilities, which will allow the company to operate on a closed-loop basis and increase energy efficiency. This was reported by the chairman of the company’s supervisory board, Serhiy Gorlach.
“Given the availability of its own raw materials, the company has decided to invest in a biomethane project. This will provide us with additional stability and environmental friendliness of production,” the company representative noted.
As part of its development strategy, the group also plans to modernize production facilities, increase the number of broilers, expand the line of products with high added value, and more actively enter new export markets. Particular attention will be paid to investments in personnel, digital solutions, and sustainable development projects to strengthen long-term competitiveness.
The Pan Kurchak Agro-Industrial Group, founded in 2002, operates on the principle of a full production cycle — from growing grains and manufacturing compound feed to incubating chickens and producing poultry meat. The group’s enterprises cultivate about 25 thousand hectares of land in the Volyn and Rivne regions. The main beneficiary is Serhiy Martynyak.
Currently, several biomethane plants are operating in Ukraine. Among them are the Hals Agro enterprise in Chernihiv region with a capacity of 3 million cubic meters per year with connection to gas distribution networks, the Vitagro group of companies in Khmelnytskyi region with a similar capacity, as well as YM Liquid Gas in Vinnytsia region, which produces 11 million cubic meters with connection to Bio LNG. Two MHP plants operate in Vinnytsia and Dnipropetrovsk regions with a capacity of 24 million and 11 million cubic meters, respectively.
On February 6, 2025, Ukraine exported biomethane to Europe for the first time. The pioneer was the Vitagro group of companies, which transported the resource to the European Union through the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
The MHP company also began commercial production of liquefied biomethane (bio-LNG) and made the first delivery to EU countries. In June, the enterprise “Gorodishche-Pustovarivskaya Agrarian Company” (GOPAK), which is part of “Hals Agro”, first exported biomethane of its own production, the buyer was the German company Uniper.
Biomethane is produced from waste from animal husbandry and crop production, which makes it a promising direction for the agricultural sector and an object of active investment in Ukraine.
