The National Commission approved the list of communities, the names of which need to be brought to the standards of the state language
The National Commission for State Language Standards approved the list of territorial communities whose names need to be brought into line with language standards.
The list was formed taking into account the recommendations of experts of educational institutions and scientific institutions based on the results of working meetings. It included 18 communities from twelve regions of Ukraine.
In particular, it is proposed to change the name of the Yenakiiv community of the Horliv district of the Donetsk region to Yenakiivsk, the Mangush community of the Mariupol district to Mangusk, the Soroky community of the Dovzhan district of the Luhansk region to Sorochynsk, and the Milov community of the Starobil district of the Luhansk region to Milivsk.
In the Zhytomyr region, the Starosiletska community is proposed to be renamed to Staroseletska, in Zakarpattia – Kosonsk to Kosonsk, in Ivano-Frankivsk – Meteivetska to Mateievetska. In the Zaporizhzhia region, they want to rename the Smirnovsk community to Smirnovsk, and Plodrodnensk to Reichenfeldsk.
In the Mykolayiv region, Radsadivska community is planned to be changed to Radisnosadivska. In the Odesa region, it is proposed to replace Kurisivska and Novokalchevska with Kurisivska and Novokalchivska, and Tairovska — with Tairivska. In the Sumy region, it is proposed to change the Esman community to Esmansk, in the Kharkiv region – Kunyevsk to Kunyevsk, and Yuzhnomysh – to Pivdenna. In the Kherson region, Askania-Nova community should be called Askania-Nova, in Chernivtsi, Vashkivetska community will change to Vashkovetska.

We remind you that on June 27, 2023, the National Commission for State Language Standards published recommendations on changing more than 1,400 names of settlements in Ukraine. Then the city of Zaporozhye was added to the list.
