The police stopped the illegal sale of rare artifacts from the 4th and 5th centuries

Kyiv police prevented the illegal sale of rare 4th-5th century artifacts. The auction tried to sell unique historical finds, including fragments of a man’s bracelet, a belt and a silver fibula. About this reported Headquarters of the National Police in Kyiv.

“Among the unique finds that were tried to be sold at the auction are fragments of a man’s bracelet and belt, as well as a silver fibula. These ornaments were a sign of the highest status during the Great Migration and belonged to the nobility of the barbarian kingdoms. Today, they are objects of cultural heritage of world importance, which do not have in any museum in the world, will be transferred to the National Museum of the History of Ukraine”, says the message.

The sale of these archaeological finds was prevented thanks to the cooperation of the police with specialists of the country’s leading historical museum. It was they who discovered the sale announcement on a website for collectors, where a fragment of a bracelet and a gilded end of a belt in the form of the head of a bird of prey with a garnet insert were displayed.

The finds date back to the 4th-5th century and come from the regions of Northern, Central and Eastern Europe. Currently, the police have appointed an art examination, which should confirm their authenticity and cultural value. After the research is completed, the artifacts will be transferred to the National Museum of the History of Ukraine for further preservation and study.
