The President of Ukraine signed a law on combating discrimination and sexual harassment in the military

Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed bill No. 13037, which is designed to improve military discipline according to NATO standards and establishes mechanisms to combat discrimination and sexual harassment among military personnel. This was reported by the press service of the Verkhovna Rada.

The document enshrines the principles of equality and non-discrimination, strengthens the protection of the honor and dignity of each serviceman.

“The law improves the procedures for official investigations and obliges commanders to immediately respond to violations of established norms. It also introduces security guarantees for persons who report violations, protecting them from pressure or unlawful punishment,” – the parliament reported.

The document amends the Disciplinary Statute of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Statute of the Internal Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, establishing compliance with equal rights and opportunities for women and men.

The military must prevent sexual harassment and violence based on gender, as well as discrimination based on religion, origin, social status and other grounds. Every serviceman who learns of such incidents is obliged to notify the relevant unit or gender advisor.

The law also extends these regulations to employees of the State Emergency Service units.
