The SBI exposed an officer of a military unit in the Lviv region who involved subordinates in the performance of private works
Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation exposed the deputy commander of one of the military units in Lviv Oblast, who involved subordinates servicemen to perform private work. Instead of service, they laid paving stones, repaired his house and even installed monuments on his graves.
According to the investigation, the officer “helped” to an entrepreneur he knew, who complained about the lack of workers for laying paving stones. At his request, the deputy commander sent several soldiers who actually worked for the businessman.
During March – September 2025, these servicemen, receiving monetary support in part, performed paving work at several facilities in the Lviv region. Territorial communities that had signed contracts with the entrepreneur acted as customers.
The amount of losses to the state budget due to the absence of soldiers on duty is determined by forensic and economic examinations. In addition, it was established that during his vacation, the officer involved three subordinates in the repair of his own house in Vinnytsia region, as well as in the installation of monuments on the graves of his parents.
It has also been previously established that the official prevented the execution of the order of the higher command to send one of the soldiers to the area of hostilities, inciting him to voluntarily leave the unit.
The deputy commander was charged with suspicion under Part 5 of Art. 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — abuse of power or official authority by a military official. The article provides for a punishment of up to 5 years of imprisonment. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
The suspect was taken into custody with the right to post a bail of over 1 million hryvnias, he was removed from his post. Procedural management is carried out by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Western region.
