DBR employees with the assistance of the DSR of the National Police reported the suspicion of four members of an organized group who were engaged in illegal logging on the territory of the Brusturyan Forestry in Zakarpattia Oblast and caused 12 million hryvnias worth of damage to the environment. About this informs DBR press office.

The organizer of the criminal scheme was the head of the Brusturyan Forest Farm, who involved three of his subordinates in the illegal activity – two forest masters and the leading engineer of the enterprise. According to forest management standards, thinning felling is allowed among trees up to 40 years old with a frequency of once every 5-10 years.

However, two foresters who were part of the division for the removal of wood for felling carried out the illegal instruction of the manager and agreed to four areas for thinning the forest, although these areas were not subject to such felling. The leading engineer, having violated the established requirements, issued a logging ticket, which he later issued for logging.

As a result, 1,369 spruce and beech trees were illegally cut down between March 2023 and April 2024. According to the conclusions of the experts, the amount of damage caused to the environment amounted to more than 12 million hryvnias.

All those involved in the crime were charged with illegal felling of a forest in excess of official authority, which caused serious consequences (Part 4 of Article 246, Part 3 of Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the articles provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years.
