The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police detained persons suspected of committing a terrorist attack in Zhytomyr
The SBU, together with the police, arrested five people suspected of involvement in the terrorist attack in Zhytomyr. About this reported press service of the National Police of Ukraine.
The incident took place on November 20 near the building of the district police department in Zhytomyr, where an explosion rang out. According to the investigation, the suspects installed a video camera in advance near the place of the explosion and hid a bag with an explosive device, which was later remotely activated.
As a result of a special operation carried out the next day by the police and the SBU, the suspects were detained. Law enforcement officers also conducted searches, during which they seized evidence confirming their involvement in the terrorist attack.
According to the investigation, the organization of the crime was organized by five people who acted on the instructions of the Russian special services. Among them are four residents of Zhytomyr, in particular two minors, and a resident of Kharkiv, previously convicted of robbery, robbery and rape.
“On the eve of the crime, a 46-year-old man from Kharkiv came to Zhytomyr and bought several mobile phones and starter packs of telecommunications operators. He left all of this in the specified place. In the future, residents of the city of Zhytomyr, aged 15, 16, 18, and 20, were engaged in preparations for the terrorist attack “, the message reads.
The suspects shared their roles: two delivered the explosive device, the others bought the necessary materials — chemicals, nails, and more. In a rented apartment, they created a “prototype” of explosives, conducted tests and filmed it for their curators.
The suspects were charged under 2 Art. 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (terrorist act), and all of them are in custody.
