The state is unable to increase compensation for damaged housing: Shulyak
Ukraine does not have the ability to increase payments for housing damaged as a result of Russian aggression, the head of the Servant of the People party, Olena Shulyak, said in an interview with Ukrinform. Currently, the maximum amount of compensation under the eRestoration programme is UAH 500,000 for houses and UAH 350,000 for apartments.
Shulyak stressed that applications worth almost UAH 8 billion have already been approved, and more than 73,000 Ukrainian families have received or will soon receive compensation for housing repairs.
‘Unfortunately, the state cannot afford to pay more for damaged housing,’ she said.
The politician also said that more than 11,000 certificates have been issued under the compensation programme for destroyed housing, totalling UAH 17.2 billion, with the average cost of a certificate being UAH 1.6 million.
Shulyak also commented on the possibility of suspending the eRestoration programme, as the draft state budget for 2025 does not provide funds for this programme. She suggested that the Ministry of Finance allocate UAH 10 billion for eRecovery, although the Ministry of Reconstruction has requested more than UAH 40 billion.
In her opinion, despite the financial difficulties, MPs will make every effort to prevent the programme from being frozen during the preparation of the budget for the second reading, even if the amount is less than planned.
