The United States proposes neutral status for the territories around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant

The USA proposed to grant neutral status to the territories around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and transfer them to the control of Washington. About this informs The Wall Street Journal.

The proposal for the Zaporizhia NPP, which is part of a broader plan for a ceasefire in Ukraine, was presented to the Ukrainian side during talks between the US and Ukrainian delegations in Paris on April 17. It is expected that Kyiv will respond to this initiative during the meeting of representatives of the USA, Ukraine and European countries in London.

“The United States believes that this could contribute to the end of the war in Ukraine”, – the message says.

Currently, it is not known exactly which areas around the ZNPP are proposed to be recognized as neutral and how they should be controlled in accordance with the American initiative. Who exactly, in the opinion of the US, should run the station is also not indicated.

We will remind that in March, during a conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyi, Donald Trump already raised the issue of the possible purchase of Ukrainian power plants, in particular nuclear ones, by the United States.

“American ownership of these stations would be the best protection for this infrastructure and support for Ukrainian energy infrastructure.” – stated in the joint statement of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Trump’s national security adviser Mike Waltz.
