Ukraine breaks off diplomatic relations with Nicaragua due to the recognition of TOT as Russian

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Nicaragua after this country recognized the temporarily occupied Crimea, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions as Russian. This is discussed in the official statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Ukraine’s foreign policy department condemned Nicaragua’s decision to recognize the temporarily occupied territories as part of Russia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that, in this way, Nicaragua violated its own obligations stipulated in the documents on the establishment of diplomatic relations with Ukraine. These documents stated that the Nicaraguan government agreed to establish and maintain diplomatic relations with Ukraine, “which will be based on the principles of friendship, cooperation and mutual respect, as well as in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations Organization and generally recognized norms of international law.

“This decisive diplomatic step is evidence that Ukraine will continue to react as harshly as possible to any attempts to encroach on its sovereignty and territorial integrity. We will not allow any encroachments on our statehood and will take all necessary measures to protect our independence, security and inviolability of our borders, said Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga.

The Republic of Nicaragua is a state in Central America, the largest in terms of area among the countries of the region.
