The USA has officially given permission to use its weapons for strikes on the territory of the Russian Federation from the Sumy region
At the end of May, the United States gave Ukraine permission to strike Russian territory from the Kharkiv region. Now the Armed Forces of Ukraine can attack Russian targets also from the territory of the Sumy region.
This was stated by Michael Carpenter, the senior director for European affairs of the National Security Council of the White House, during a telephone briefing. He noted that this decision will affect the deployment of Russian troops near the borders with Kharkiv and Sumy regions.
Russia will no longer be able to build up its troops near these areas. The White House officially confirmed permission to use American weapons for strikes on Russian territory near the Kharkiv and Sumy regions.
“We have stated quite clearly that this authorization for the use of weapons allows the Ukrainians to fire back at Russian positions directly across the border in Kharkiv Oblast, as well as Sumy Oblast,” Michael Carpenter emphasized.
Carpenter added that this would make it impossible for Russia to concentrate military forces near the borders with these regions, from where it regularly attacks Ukraine.
