The first unit of the Ukrainian Legion will begin training at a Polish training ground by the end of this year, according to an analytical article by Ukrinform about the formation of the legion in Poland.
According to the recruitment centre, the first volunteers will soon sign contracts with the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Lublin and will be sent to a Polish training ground for further training. The contract can be signed for three years or for a special period.
The training will not take place on the basis of the Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian Brigade (LitPolUkraine Brigade), as some media reported, but under the guidance of NATO instructors in specially designated areas.
After the basic training, soldiers who need additional specialised training will be able to continue their training at other training grounds.
Under the agreement, the Ukrainian side provides the Legion volunteers with uniforms and medicines, while the Polish side provides infrastructure, equipment and weapons during the training. The issue of providing the Legion with Polish equipment and weapons for further deployment to the combat zone in Ukraine is currently being discussed.
‘There was a preliminary agreement with the Polish side, but this issue is still to be finalised,’ said the recruitment centre representative.
Earlier, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh confirmed Poland’s readiness to start training this Ukrainian unit.
Poland remains one of Ukraine’s key allies in countering Russian aggression. Warsaw has provided Ukraine with more than 45 military aid packages worth more than €4 billion. A logistics hub is operating in Poland to provide military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, and more than 20,000 Ukrainian soldiers have already been trained at Polish training grounds.
