The Verkhovna Rada passed a law on the mandatory addition of bioethanol to automobile gasoline: details
Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved a law requiring the use of biofuels in the transport industry. This legislative act (No. 3356-d) establishes clear rules and incentives for the production and consumption of ecologically clean fuel, opening new perspectives for the domestic agro-industrial complex and reducing dependence on imported energy resources.
Key provisions of the new law:
- The law harmonizes Ukrainian legislation with the requirements of the European Union regarding the use of renewable energy sources, in particular Directive 2009/28/EC.
- From June 1, 2025, all automobile gasoline sold in Ukraine must contain at least 5% biocomponents. Exceptions are gasoline with an octane number of 98 and fuel for the needs of defense and government reserves.
- The law provides for criminal liability for violating the requirements for the production and circulation of biofuel, in particular for false information about its composition.
Economic and environmental advantages:
It is noted that the adoption of this law will contribute to the development of the production of bioethanol and other types of biofuels in Ukraine, creating new jobs and increasing tax revenues. In addition, the use of biofuels will reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and other harmful substances, improving air quality and contributing to the fight against climate change.
