‘These are war crimes”: Lubinets appeals to UN and ICRC after execution of captured soldiers
Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets strongly reacted to another act of war crimes committed by the Russian occupiers after the appearance of a video where three Ukrainian prisoners of war were executed in the New York area, Donetsk region. In his appeals in Telegram, Lubinets called these actions unacceptable and called on the international community to react immediately.
The Ombudsman emphasized that the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war is a gross violation of the norms of international law, in particular the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War. He also noted that Russia systematically violates human rights by tolerating the brutal actions of its military at all levels of command.
“Another video appeared on the Internet, where the occupiers are probably shooting unarmed Ukrainian soldiers in Donetsk region. For my part, as the Ombudsman of Ukraine, I demand from the international community to record these violations of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War and international humanitarian law. That is why, in all likelihood cases, I am sending letters to the UN and the ICRC. Currently, I am sending the following letter to them as a matter of urgency”, – noted Lubinets.
At the same time, he added that the international community should act immediately to stop such barbaric actions, which contradict all moral and legal norms.
