Trump says he ordered Kurds not to intervene in Iran war

US President Donald Trump said that he had rejected the possibility of involving Kurdish forces in hostilities in Iran. As reported by The Wall Street Journal, he said this during a conversation with reporters.

“They are ready to go in, but I told them I don’t want them to do it. The war is already difficult enough to drag the Kurds into it,” — Trump stressed.

He explained that the participation of the Kurds in the fighting could provoke a civil war inside Iran and push other ethnic groups, who seek autonomy, to an uprising. According to him, such intervention carries high risks not only for the conflict, but also for the security of the Kurds themselves.

According to Iranian state media, Iranian armed forces have already launched strikes on Kurdish positions in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. In addition, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has declared its intention to “crush” any separatist groups that threaten the country’s territorial integrity.

The US position limits the involvement of outside ethnic groups in the conflict with Iran, while emphasizing the high level of tension in the region and the potential consequences of the intervention of Kurdish forces.

Previously, CNN reported that the CIA was working to arm Iranian Kurds to stimulate a popular uprising, as well as attempts to break through the border from Iraq.
