The UK government has imposed sanctions against intermediaries who recruited migrants to fight on the side of Russia against Ukraine.
The UK government has imposed sanctions against 35 individuals and organisations involved in recruiting migrants and foreigners to work at Russian drone manufacturing plants or participate in the war against Ukraine. This is stated in the press release of the British government.
London stated that the networks against which restrictions were imposed exploited foreigners who were looking for a better life.
“They were sent to “… as cannon fodder, or forced to work in factories,” the British government noted.
The press release specifically mentions the Russian program “Alabuga Start”, which is associated with the production of drones at an enterprise that is already under sanctions by the United Kingdom.
The sanctions list also includes individuals and legal entities from third countries, in particular Thailand and China, who, according to London, supplied components for UAVs and other critically important military goods to Russia. Among them is Pavel Nikitin, whose company is developing the VT-40 strike drone, which Russian troops are using against Ukraine.
Separately, three individuals were placed under restrictions, whom the UK associates with recruiting people to the war on the side of Russia. Among them is Polina Azarnykh, who, according to the British government, facilitated the transportation of people from a number of countries to Russia for further sending to the front in Ukraine.
