Ukraine allowed the exhumation of the bodies of Polish victims of the Volyn tragedy

For the first time, Ukraine gave permission to exhume the bodies of Polish victims of the Volyn tragedy. About this reported Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

“Finally, a breakthrough. A decision was made on the first exhumations of Polish victims of the UPA. I want to thank the Ministers of Culture of Poland and Ukraine for their good cooperation. We are waiting for further decisions”, Tusk’s message says.

We will remind that on January 9, the Minister of National Unity of Ukraine, Oleksiy Chernyshov, was in Poland, where he held a meeting with the Minister of Culture, Hanna Vrublevska. According to the Polish agency, the ministers discussed the importance of culture in preserving national identity and its impact on the socio-economic development of both states.

A day after that, Donald Tusk announced the decision to start the first exhumations of the Polish victims of the Volyn tragedy. Earlier, the Minister of Defense of Poland Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysh declared that he would block Ukraine’s accession to the EU until the issue of exhumation and memory of the victims of the Volyn tragedy is resolved.
