Ukraine and Japan signed a ten-year agreement on security guarantees

On the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida signed a historic bilateral agreement on security guarantees. Japan became the 16th country to join the G7 declaration and conclude such an agreement with Ukraine.

Basic provisions of the agreement
- Japan will provide Ukraine with $4.5 billion in 2024 and will continue support throughout the 10-year term of the agreement.
- The agreement covers security and defense assistance, humanitarian assistance, technical and financial cooperation.
- The countries will cooperate in the implementation of the Peace Formula proposed by Ukraine.
- The agreement provides for further sanctions against Russia and efforts to bring the aggressor to justice.
- Japan will provide support to Ukraine in reconstruction and recovery.
President Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Japan for its steadfast solidarity and commitment to the protection of life and international law. He emphasized that this level of support is a breakthrough for Japan.
