Ukraine and Poland launch joint production of weapons and ammunition
Ukraine and Poland have taken a step that could significantly strengthen the defense capabilities of both states: they signed a letter of intent in Kyiv regarding the joint production of weapons and ammunition. This was announced by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk during his visit to the Ukrainian capital.
According to Tusk, the document signed in the presence of President Volodymyr Zelensky is not a formal declaration, but should be the start of real practical cooperation between enterprises of the two countries.
“We signed a letter of intent, which is not just a declaration of intent, but actually something much bigger – an introduction to practical cooperation. This has been our goal for many, many months. We talked about this and made a lot of efforts to make the idea of joint production of weapons and ammunition at enterprises in both Poland and Ukraine a reality, Tusk said at a press conference with President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Polish Prime Minister explained that the parties had been working for a long time to find the necessary financing and remove barriers that previously made the exchange of technologies between the countries impossible or significantly complicated. He emphasized that the signed document is “already supported by concrete facts”, which gives grounds to talk about the transition from ideas to implementation.
Warsaw also intends to work to ensure that funds under the EU SAFE program can be used as effectively as possible in matters of common security.
Against this background, Poland continues active defense projects within the country. It was previously reported that a contract was signed in Poland for the construction of the so-called “anti-drone wall” worth about 15 billion zlotys ($4.3 billion). It is planned to be built within two years, and the basis of the system is to be a multilayered network of radars, jammers, machine guns and small missiles.
