Ukraine called on India to become a moderator of peace talks with Russia
Ukraine wants India to play a key role in ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. Kyiv is considering the possibility of involving India as a moderator of the peace talks. This was stated by the Ambassador of Ukraine to India Oleksandr Polishchuk. informs Bloomberg.
According to him, India should play a more active role in the settlement of the conflict, especially if it seeks to win a permanent seat in the UN Security Council. Polishchuk emphasized that India should not limit itself to the transmission of messages between Ukraine and Russia, but should become a guarantor of a just peace.
The diplomat also noted that Ukraine hopes that India can use its close ties with Moscow to persuade Russia to join the peace process and participate in the planned Peace Summit.
Polishchuk reminded that Ukraine has already approached India with a proposal to hold a second peace summit by November 2024, but New Delhi’s position on this initiative remains uncertain.
Visit of the Prime Minister of India to Ukraine
On August 23, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid an official visit to Kyiv. During the meeting, the parties signed four cooperation agreements. The Office of the President of Ukraine emphasized the importance of this visit, as India has influence over Russia and can mediate in the peace process.
India, for its part, calls for the start of negotiations with Russia and is ready to make a significant contribution to the peaceful settlement of the conflict.
