Ukraine complained to the IAEA about Russian strikes on substations important for nuclear power plants
Ukraine complained to the IAEA about Russian attacks on substations important for nuclear power plants. The latest attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure significantly worsened the stability of energy supply to nuclear facilities outside the site. About this it is said in the statement of the Ukrainian delegation during the meeting of the Board of Governors of the IAEA.
“The findings of the IAEA expert mission on electrical substations critical to nuclear safety highlight that many substations, which are essential for the reliable power supply of nuclear power plants, have suffered serious damage as a result of missile and drone attacks,” – said in the statement.
According to Ukrainian representatives, such a decline in infrastructure poses a threat to uninterrupted external energy supply, which is critically important for nuclear safety. In addition, it increases the risk of transient processes, which can endanger the stable operation of nuclear reactors.
The authors of the statement emphasize that the critical state of Ukraine’s energy system, confirmed by the recent assessment of substations conducted by the IAEA, emphasizes the urgent need for international assistance to ensure reliable energy supply to nuclear facilities.
