President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi expressed the opinion that the country’s accession to NATO could become a key element in stopping the active phase of the war with Russia. In an interview with Sky News, he notedthat the return of temporarily occupied territories can be achieved through diplomatic negotiations.
“If we want to stop the “hot phase” of the war, we need to bring under the NATO “umbrella” the territory of Ukraine that we control, – he noted. – We must do it quickly. And then Ukraine will be able to return the territories through diplomatic means.” – stressed the president.
In his opinion, the invitation to NATO should include Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. At the same time, the ceasefire is important to ensure that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not return to aggressive actions to seize new Ukrainian territories.
Speaking about the newly elected US President Donald Trump, Zelensky said that it is important to establish cooperation in order to gain his support.
“I want to work with him directly because there are different voices around him. And that’s why we shouldn’t (allow – Ed.) anyone around to destroy our communication. It won’t bring any benefit and will be destructive. We should try to find a new model. I want to share ideas with him and I want to hear him.” – he emphasized.
