Ukraine has imposed sanctions on suppliers and manufacturers of communications equipment, electronic warfare and microelectronics for the Russian military
On January 4, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree implementing the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to impose sanctions against 95 individuals and 70 legal entities. The vast majority of sanctioned individuals are citizens or residents of the Russian Federation and are associated with the implementation of the Russian state defense order and the work of its defense-industrial complex.
The sanctions list includes enterprises and their managers engaged in the production and supply of products for the Russian military-industrial complex and law enforcement agencies. This includes, in particular, the fields of communications, electronic warfare, and microelectronics. The restrictions also affected companies in the chemical, mining, metallurgical and fuel and energy sectors of Russia.
According to the documents, the list of sanctioned persons includes one individual from China – Wang Jing, nine legal entities from the PRC, as well as one company registered in the British Virgin Islands.
The NSDC decision is aimed at complicating the functioning of the Russian military-industrial complex and reducing its capabilities in the production of weapons and military equipment used in the war against Ukraine. Ukraine also initiates the synchronization of these sanctions with partners and calls for the introduction of similar restrictions within the European Union when adopting the 20th package of sanctions.
Recall that in October the EU approved the 19th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, which provides, in particular, for a ban on the import of Russian liquefied natural gas from 2027, restrictions on 117 shadow fleet vessels, and increased control over the movement of Russian diplomats in the European Union countries.
Preparation of the 20th package of sanctions is currently underway, which may be presented early next year. Separately, the EU has already introduced additional restrictions against more than 40 vessels of the Russian shadow fleet.
