Ukraine has joined the global network “Women in Transport”
The Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine joined the launch of the global network “Women in Transport” (WiT). About this informs press service of the Mingromad.
“Currently, on the initiative of the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development, two projects have been launched to train female truck and bus drivers for further employment. These projects are a response to the consequences of the invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine and the strengthening of the personnel crisis, especially in areas traditionally dominated by men.” – said Serhii Derkach, Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development.
He emphasized that these initiatives show that there is no division into “male” or “female” professions, because the most important thing is the skills needed to perform a certain job.
“We are currently working to scale up relevant initiatives and ensure a sustainable system of training and education for women in various transport professions”Derkach added.
The main tasks of the “Women in Transport” network are to expand the opportunities of women in the field of transport through the support of joint initiatives, exchange of experience and information, training and retraining, as well as attracting partners for relevant projects.
Special attention will be focused on promoting regulatory changes in the field of women’s education in STEM, supporting initiatives for their employment in the transport sector, scaling up best practices and expanding efforts of individual countries and projects to attract women to this sector.
The network was launched with the support of the World Bank Group, the European Investment Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the International Transport Forum.
