Ukraine ranked fifth in the world and third in Europe in the number of cyberattacks

Microsoft published the Digital Defense Report 2025, which states that more than 52% of all cyberattacks in the world are related to extortion or use ransomware. According to the document, Ukraine ranked fifth in the world and third in Europe in terms of the number of recorded cyberattacks.

The country accounted for about 9.5% of all incidents in the European region. Microsoft representative Renate Strazdina emphasized that Ukraine is demonstrating rapid development in the field of cyber defense and is forming a “digital resilience that inspires far beyond its borders”.

Every day, Microsoft processes more than 100 trillion security signals, blocks 4.5 million malware infection attempts, and checks up to 5 billion emails for phishing threats. The company notes that artificial intelligence accelerates both the development of phishing attacks and their detection.

Most often, attackers target hospitals, schools, and local governments, which have limited resources to protect against cyber attacks. Microsoft emphasizes the importance of modernizing security systems and implementing multi-factor authentication (MFA), which can prevent more than 99% of account attacks.

The majority of attacks are carried out by organized cybercriminals, whose main goal is financial gain. In 80% of cases, their actions are aimed at stealing data. At the same time, state structures from China, Russia, Iran and North Korea continue to carry out cyberattacks – from espionage to attempts to obtain financial gain.

Microsoft calls on governments and businesses to cooperate more, raise security standards and share information about threats within the framework of the Secure Future Initiative.
